Lakers Sweep Nuggets
Led by the front runner for the Most Valuable Player award, the Lakers defeated the Denver Nuggets 101-101 to complete a first round sweep. Kobe Bryant led the team with 31 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assist. Bryant was unstoppable the last five minutes of the game scoring 14 points in that stretch. The Lakers will now advance to the second round, a position that they have not been in since 2004. Other contributions included 21 points by Pau Gasol and 14 points by Lamar Odom.

Marvin Harrison was interviewed by police about a North Philadelphia shooting this week. Lt. Frank Vanore said the investigation of the shooting outside a bar Tuesday, April 29, 2008, was continuing.

Report- Kobe Will Be Name MVP
The Lakers' players were watching the finale of the Houston-Utah first-round playoff series Friday night at a Hollywood restaurant when Bryant received an e-mail informing him he had won his first MVP. The Times reported it on its Web site Friday night, citing anonymous sources familiar with the outcome of voting by media members.
While it hasn't been made official, the honor has been expected since the completion of the regular season 2½ weeks ago, when the Bryant-led Lakers finished with a Western Conference-best 57-25 record.
